What Freud Can Teach Us About Saab Ignition Key Replacement

Saab Key Programming

Saab cars built since about 1994 come with an immobilizer system built on coded keys. A new transponder is required for inclusion of an additional key, and special programming. This is usually handled by the dealer using a Tech2 diagnostic tool.

This can be expensive. It is always advisable to keep an extra set of keys available.

Transponder key

The transponder can be described as a key that is equipped with an electronic chip. The chip sends a signal when the key is placed into the ignition. The car then examines the signal to see whether it is the same as the one that is in the key. If  saab key replacement G28 Car Keys  are in sync it will open and start. This is a great way to prevent car theft and keep your vehicle secure from thieves.

Transponder keys are a common feature in vehicles, but you must be aware that they are not as secure as classic metal keys. While the metal part of a traditional key can be cut and copied the transponder is protected by an electronic chip. The chip has an individual code that is embedded into the car's computer to identify it.

When a Saab key fob is used the car recognizes it and allows it to turn on. However, it can only do this if your key fob is unmodified and has a chip that has been programmed to match. Otherwise, the car would reject the key and refuse to start.

It is essential to ensure that you have a spare key for your Saab. This is especially true especially if you reside in a rural area, where there are numerous car thieves. You can get a brand new key for your Saab by going to the dealership and not paying their expensive costs. You can have a replacement key created on the spot for less than half of the price you'd spend at an auto dealer.

Key for Wired

Saab cars usually come with two keys when they're new. If you have only one, it is recommended to get an additional key as quickly as you can. This is because if you lose it, the car will need a new CIM and the locking cylinders replaced. This can be costly particularly for used cars.

The next step is connecting the wires for columns and rows to your microcontroller. This is the most difficult part of the project and will require a great deal of soldering. There's no standard way to do this, but it's important to plan out how you will route and solder the columns and rows. For this keyboard, there are five rows and 17 columns, so there will be 22 microcontroller wires and pins that you need to connect.

Once the rows and columns are soldered, it's the time to connect them to the key switches. To do this, put a diode over each pin of the key switch and then solder it. This will protect the pins on the key switch from current and also prevent them from being shorted. A diode allows current to only flow in one direction. It comes with a visual indicator, a black band, that indicates the direction in which current will flow.

A few of the tools that are available at auto parts storeslike the Autel MaxiIM IM608 PRO and IM508 -- may aid shop customers or DIY users in some cases create replacement keys and restore the lost immobilizer's data, Sanabria says. The tools connect to OBD ports and help the customer through each step which makes the process much easier than replacing the vehicle's computer.

Jump starting the battery

A majority of people keep a set in their trunks to jump start a car in case of emergency, but it may not be the best option for vehicles with newer technology. They have numerous computers and digital devices that communicate with each other. A surge in voltage when the battery is connected another battery could damage the components and render your vehicle unusable.

Start the vehicle that is working and allow it to run for approximately two minutes before connecting the cables to the one that is disabled. Attach the red clip on the positive terminal of the battery that's good. (It will read "POS" or "+".) Attach the other end to a clear, unpainted metal surface beneath the hood of your disabled vehicle. The engine block is an excellent choice. Do not connect the black cable to the negative terminal of the dead battery, as it could ignite an ignition spark that ignites the gasoline in the engine bay.

Once the cables are connected, start the vehicle you are not using and let it run for about five minutes before disconnecting them in reverse order. The battery in your Saab 9-3 will be recharged while you drive. It takes a while for it to drop back down. It is a good idea to buy a spare key fob as soon as you can, since replacing the only working one requires the installation of a new computer module and special programming to convince it that your lost keys aren't trying to steal the car.

Replacement case

Saab owners usually have only one car key, and if it is lost, they will be charged. The reason for this is that it's expensive to buy a new key, and this involves replacing the CIM (Column Integration Module) or TWICE on older models, and programming. It's recommended to have a backup key in the event of theft or any other catastrophe the best solution is to purchase a second key as quickly as you can. Even if the key is "new", it won't work.

The dealer will charge you top dollar if you only have one working key. We can reset and reprogram the computer's EEEPROM in order for it to accept a replacement key without having to replace the entire system. This can save you lots of money. It's also much less expensive than waiting until you lose your sole key.
